I never heard of half.com until today when I went to check my account on eBay. I hadn't been on it since last winter so I thought I had better check to make sure it was still active or whatever. Well they have this site called half.com that you can sell books, movies, CD's, or games. It is pretty cool. They list your stuff for 60 days and don't charge you a fee to list it. I checked out amazon.com but they charge you listing fees, a flat fee and a percentage of the sale. half.com Just charges you a flat 15% when you sell the item. Which is pretty awesome cuz that's what Amazon was charging on top of all the other fees. So I had found a bunch of books in the basement of the bookstore uptown. They were all like 50 cents but they are selling for $5-$20 a piece on half.com. So I'm pretty excited. I then went uptown to the junk store and found some more books for 30 cents to 50 cents a piece and they are all in new or like new condition. So hopefully this will pan out and they will sell. I am going to start going to stores and looking at the clearance stuff and see if I can't find anything else to sell. One item at a time I will become financially Independent! Or at least be able to pay the bills.

My new great idea!

Well I have been thinking of so many ideas my brain is starting to hurt! But I think I have came across one that might be viable. I want to create a website that has some recipes on it and then you can purchase a cookbook on it. I think I am going to write my own cookbook but just publish it on a CD and sell those and that way people can do what they want with it. They could just print it off or they could just keep it on the disk and use it as needed. So what do ya think? I think it is awesome! I am starting to get excited about it. I still need to figure all this stuff out about registering as a small business and getting my license but I think this maybe my way to quit my job but still be bringing in an income! I went to the library and got a couple of books on how to start my own online business. I am fairly confident that if I can find the right product I could really begin to make a little money. I also discussed with hubby today about starting my own business of selling dog clothes online. I am not really sure about how to go about it but I have been reading books that I got. I think that would take more start up money than selling stuff on Ebay. Everything I have read states that you need to have a niche that you can specialize in. I have been throwing around a couple of ideas but haven't settled on anything. I guess I just really need to do some more research on it and see what I can find out.

Things are a brewing

Well I may have found a way to make more money and not even leave my job of course I might not have a job anytime soon either. My manager told me today that they are finally going to fill a position in the company office that has been empty for a while now. It is assistant to the Deli/Bakery Merchandiser. She told our store manager that she would be very interested and that if she would get that position then she would want me to be the Deli/Bakery Manager for our store! That would totally Rock! I do really like my job its just the position I am in now doesn't pay very much. Especially after Health Insurance, Uniforms, 401K, Short Term Disability, and Life Insurance are all taken out. Thats not even including taxes. So that would be totally awesome if I would get that position. The only thing I would not like a lot is that my hours would change and I wouldn't be able to get the kids from school/bus stop anymore. But I would probably be able to get my stepdad and my husbands grandmother to get them from school/bus stop. I would worry about it when the time came. If it ever does. My company is soo backwards sometimes.
So not having a job anymore part. My manager also told me that this new guy they hired to head all the perishable departments has got some new ideas. One of which is getting rid of the actual baking and switch all our products to thaw-n-sell. Thaw-n-sell are things that we just pull out of the freezer and put directly on the shelves. That way they no longer have to pay someone to work in the bakery. The manager would be responsible of pricing and placing the product on the shelves. So they wouldn't need a baker anymore. Also he wants to eliminate or cut down to the bare minimum the cake decorators. He just wants someone in there a few days a week to do the special orders. I find all of this utterly retarded. Our image as a company is a more old fashion grocery. We will make a special order birthday cake in a few hours or whip a party tray together at the last minute. We are the only store in town where the churches can special order extra-large loaves of bread for communion. We would pretty much go under if we couldn't do these things anymore because we have slightly higher pricing than our competitors. So this should be interesting to see where things are going to go.

First

I wanted to create this blog to write about finding out what I want to do "with my life". I mean some things are already a given and there are some things that will never happen. I am a mother of 2 and a step-mom of 2. I have been married for 2 years. And I am about to turn 27. Only 3 years away from thirty! To me when someone turns thirty its like you finally enter adult-hood. Because I certainly do not feel like an adult yet so in my mind thirty is that point.
I have become very anxious about my whole situation in life. Job, Family, Financial. I want to find something else to do to make money. I would like to have an actual career. Or at least be able to see where my job is taking me to that point where I can be making money to pay all the bills and enjoy what I am doing.
Right now I work in a grocery store. I am the Baker. I make the doughnuts, bread, desserts, and also have to help out in the deli. I really like what I do and I love the hours but it barely pays the minimum bills. I've been thinking about the options. I could get another (2nd) job or I could just bite the bullet and get a whole new job. I have been trying to "think outside the box" and find a way to work out of my home for a second job but I haven't really found anything yet that I think could be viable. But that is pretty much all this is going to be about. Me trying to make a living and still be with my girls as much as possible.

Anyone need a cleaning lady?

Well I have been searching the papers everyday looking for something that would fit my schedule. I work the same hours everyday so that helps. I know I will have to find something in the afternoon. My only concern is who will get the girls from school. The one gets out at 2:45 and the other gets off the bus at 3:30 to 3:45. Hubby is usually at work so he isn't able to help. But that is why I have been looking into working out of my home. I really like doing crafts and baking. I was trying to think of something that I could make and then sell to people but I'm not sure what actually would make me some money.
I even thought about putting an ad in the paper to advertise to clean peoples houses. I like to clean and organize.....as long as its not my house. Isn't that bizarre? My house looks like a train wreak most of the time. I have no energy to waste cleaning because as soon as I get something done there is either a child, animal, or hubby right behind me messing everything up again. So I have adapted to cleaning only when no one is here and/or when company is coming. I mean my house is not nasty or anything. I clean up the garbage and sweep the floors. But it is definitely cluttered.
Well back to the subject at hand. I don't think that doing "parties" would work for me because of trying to find someone to watch the girls. I don't know that much about the internet to try to sell stuff online. I did try to sell stuff on ebay but I was barely breaking even. I need an original idea but my brain isn't cooperating. grrrr....
